RE: [HolisticPet2] 2 questions?

No, Happy Camp is east of Crescent City and just south of Cave Junction, OR.  263 miles north and a tad east of you.  We send HWF daily to customers in nearly all other states (except Utah, Montana, Wyoming, SD, ND – never HW in these states) and once in a blue moon to OR, CA, WA, NV, AZ, or CO.

Did you vaccinate your other dogs/animals that stayed healthier on traditional kibble for rabies as frequently as CA law requires rabies vaccines now?   http://www.rabieschallengefund.org/ gives info about Dr. Dodd’s Rabies Challenge Study.

I have found the rabies vaccine causes horrendous ear infections, tumors at the site of the injections, aggressiveness, and cancers.  The rabies vaccine used to be given in the hind leg, so when the animal got cancer, they could just amputate the leg.  Now that it’s given in the scruff of the neck…pretty tough to amputate the head…

Happy Camp? Isn’t that over near Placerville?

OMG!! I just realized it wasn’t HW cases that I was talking about … it was Rabies!!! Good grief. Sorry. I am so embarrassed, LOL!

For years, my vet hasn’t recommended rabies vaccine because there hasn’t been any cases in Mendocino Cty until last year. Now she’s recommending it if “we” choose to do it, which I do because I’m just not going to take the chance of my dogs coming across a rabid animal, which is possible because we live in the country, and our cabin is in the country. I can tell ya’, I go through a lot of Milk Thistle! LOL!!

But back to the probability of Heartworm.

Well, I really don’t know how many mosquitoes we have buzzing around. As of last week I didn’t count them ;o) but they’re definitely around. I’ve noticed them in the cabin at our ranch, which is inland, by 2 hours, and around various places in the areas around the cabin. Here, in Fort Bragg, I haven’t noticed them … yet. I’m extremely aware of keeping the outside water moving and/or clean to help keep mosquitoes away. I also make sure to turn on our hot tub at least once a week, just in case. Soon, though, they will be buzzing in swarms!

We don’t have too many of the skeeter-getter bugs, but when I see them I leave them alone. Often they get into the cabin and that’s fine with me.

Also, we have a bug zapper at the ranch. And mosquito coils. And Mosquito candles. And I doubt that any of them work, except for the zapper, but it makes me feel better to have all of them lit and working :o)

There is one giant dog in Happy Camp, CA that is now HW free using HWF.  The one down by us on the coast moved here from out of state.

TWO heartworm cases in the county you live in?  Did you inquire if these dogs got HW living there?  Were these shelter/humane society/rescue dogs?  That sounds to me like saying, there are two cases of fleas in this county, so I better put my dog on a flea preventative…

Mind you, our local animal shelter had 59 cases of parvo last August…but there weren’t 59 non-shelter cases of parvo in this city during that month, though there were more than that in the county last August.

How many mosquitos do you have buzzin’ around now?  We have lots of those big ugly skeeter getter bugs and only a few skeeters here.
