Re: [HolisticPet] treating deep wounds /////what I use....
If you can't wait on the mail they have a simlar soft inflatable E-collar at PetSmart.
Also I would do a wet to dry dressing on that ear sore using Colloidal Silver.
Let it stay in contact with the sore for at least 6 mins.I'd do it at least twice a day.
I have an outdoor boy cat who always seems to come home damaged ,bitten ear, scratches, little bits missing. So I treat these ouchies with the Collodial Silver and they are usually better with in a day or 2.
Fresh aloe vera leaf sliced open and applied takes the heat out of a lot of inflamation too.
If your house has a flea problem, I'd try this, you can buy commercial made ones but thesea re so easy to make,Y bother?
Get a cookie sheet withsides or a shallow pie pan, add soapy water,I prefere Dawn mix ,add to pan, set on floor and suspend above the pan a small 6 watt night light type bulb, it MUST be green,in the morning you should see little dead drowned fleas in the pan, you can also use sticky Fly Paper sheets if these are available.
My husband was a poison nut and would spray malathion all around the floor when we had aflea problem. After very bad reactions to this, I ordered the flea traps and they worked well. The other board I'mon has a recipe for a natural flea repelent used by the members, if you are interested let me know and I'll forward it to you
Good luck

Here's what I would do:
1) Put a collar on that would prevent him from scratching and opening that wound over and over. I don't like the plastic E-cones, but I do like these:

2) I would put something like Calendula gel on the wound to aid in healing. If it also has aloe and or comfrey in it, all the better.
3) I would clean the ears using Zymox Otic. Google for it and you will find multiple places to buy it. I get the kind WITHOUT hydrocortisone, but that's up to you.
4) If he is eating any grains, I would eliminate them immediately. Don't forget about treats.
5) As for the fleas, since you didn't specify what all you have tried, it's hard to suggest anything. But you might wish to take a look at this article:

My dog has been going through bouts of ear infections. Red, hot, swollen
ear that he has scratched to pieces and now has a deep wound on the outside
of the ear which wont heal from constant scratching. Also, he has
terrible flea allergies, and there are fleas out there when we go walking, and in
the yard. Ive treated the yard and house with all natural remedies, but
still he is suffering. Any ideas on what to treat the deep wound on his ear
with ? It just keeps opening up and bleeding. It is about the size of a
quarter.
Thank you.
