[HolisticPet2] Re: Health of Today's Pets

Great posts - Julie & Toni.

Personally, I think we're all screwed. When I fled the city many
years ago, I thought I'd be escaping a lot of the toxins, pollution,
etc. Nope. Living in an isolated area doesn't make much difference -
the air might be a bit cleaner but the neighbors spray their
property, Tyson has polluted the water supply, the power company
comes in and sprays trees with a chemical that kills them instantly.
We can't count on any terminology to define anything - natural and/or
organic means nothing, free-range chickens means nothing - etc, etc.
I remember when corn-fed beef hit the markets and it was a big deal.
Corn is a completely unnatural feed for cows and the beef stopped
having any taste at all. In the years I've been feeding raw, I've
watched the chicken change drastically. I wasn't paying that much
attention to what I consumed but it was eaten immediately. Now, the
human-grade chicken for the dogs spoils very fast; by the time I've
thawed a package of pork necks, it already stinks. The dogs love
'ripe' meat. No one can convince me that it is the same quality they
were getting before.

I think the outside thing has rubbed off on the dogs even tho they
are not allowed computer access. The dogs used to want to go outside,
take sun baths, roll in whatever, go for runs. They have no
restrictions. Now, I have to make certain they go out and it isn't
willingly. Five minutes, perfect weather, and they're back at the
door barking to be let in. They act like I'm torturing them!

Nearly 40 years ago, I worked for a vet. All of the diseases that
seem to be taken for granted now, I never saw or heard of. We dealt
with car hits, distemper & lepto - that was it. Those cases were few
and far between. I then worked for humane groups and one shelter -
same thing. Where did all of these horrible diseases come from? Maybe
decades/generations of crappy food and pharma abuse?

Sorry - preaching to the choir ---
Paula
