ingredients in a 10-quart stockpot (stainless steel, please) with
enough water to cover. Bring to a boil, then turn down the heat as low
as possible and simmer for 2 hours (the carrots should be quite soft at
the end of the cooking time). Remove from the heat, let cool, and

I make one very similar to this but I pressure cook the bones for 2-2 1//2  hours and mix those in, too. The turkey or chicken bones are soft enough you can cut them with a table knife or just break the bigger bones apart with your fingers. Most of my dogs are big so I don't usually bother with the breaking part unless I have a big enough batch that I am going to portion them into freezer bags. Otherwise I just use out of the big pan I cooked everything in.
