Toni,
Excellent point. I never thought about the low grade kibbles possibly not being horrid years ago. I honestly don't know, though, because way back then, I never knew about reading ingredients and educating myself; I was one of those dopes who bought a bag of kibble because the photos on the bags were pretty *sigh.*
On an average, my pets spend a lot of time outside. We take walks, occasionally go on hikes, go to the beach, and when we're not doing that, they're over in their yard. But of course it all depends on the weather.
I don't use any pesticides or fertilizers at all. The only thing I use for healthy plants is DE.
I've almost gotten to the point where I'm afraid to take my dogs to the City because of the air pollution and ground-related pesticides and the fly-over spraying, but not quite yet; I haven't gotten totally paranoid ;-)
Sometimes I see the research I've muddled through over the years hasn't been worth it, because I have a house full of dogs with various canine illnesses.
That said, all of them, except Beaver, are rescues so I'm sure they all came to me with underlying issues, but feeding a raw diet and giving homeopathy and supplements and Chinese Herbs didn't prevent anything.
