Denise,
Ok, here's my opinion regarding your fears ~~
we do the best we know how for our pets throughout their lives, and sometimes we tend to go overboard, trying to keep them well. But when they're sick, we try everything "out there" to heal them, making "overboard" look trivial to what we do next.
Honestly? I think we try too hard sometimes and end up without benefits from our efforts and gynormous expenses.
I have a cupboard full of homeopathy, and a freezer busting at the seams with raw dog food, and a lineup of supplements on the kitchen counter that would put any HFS out of business.
40+ years ago, I fed ~~ ok, you better sit down … you might also want a cool rag to drape across your forehead ~~ Pedigree then eventually Kibbles 'n Bits to the dogs, and Friskies to the cats, and I never heard of giving supplements or homeopathy to pets, and every single one of them lived to be geezers, and every one of them died from "natural" old age causes. And I vaccinated for everything.
But every one of those pets *rarely* had to go to the vet.
I've been feeding a raw diet for 9 ½ years and using homeopathy, Chinese Herbs, and supplementing with necessary vitamins, and every one of my pets is sick!
Bess had Liposarcoma, which she survived, but unfortunately it has returned, Liver disease, bladder infections, and DDD.
Miko had Kidney and UT issues, then she died from Osteosarcoma.
Rosey has periodic anal gland infections, and crystals.
Beaver has Colitis.
And we think Boomerang the cat has early stage renal failure.
And I'm at the vets more now than I ever was all those years ago!!
Even though I'm going to stick with what I'm doing now: raw diet, homeopathy, etc. I don't think any of it matters one little bit.
No matter what we do for our animals, there's no guarantee of their overall health.
Hang in there, kiddo!!
