RE: [HolisticPet] Dandelion, etc. (was Re: Losing muscle mass in back legs - Cushings?)

Hi Amanda,

It wasn't actually me who mentioned milk thistle; it was my buddy Mitch. But hopefully you won't mind me throwing out an answer anyway.

Yes, dandelion is also liver supportive.

Good to see you are also using Denosyl. For those who don't know, that is SAM-e (s-adenosylmethionine), which I recommend highly. It is helpful for liver issues, arthritis, mood...and is being studied for it's effect on many other things. They've done good studies on it's use in dogs at vet schools. I think Cornell, as well as one (forget the name) in Texas.

Here's some info about it:

Personally, I take it because I have OA. I notice a sharp difference when I forget to take it (or run out) for a few days.

You mentioned using Milk Thistle, what about Dandilion in addition?  A Holistic vet told me to use both aid the liver.

The reason I ask is my miniature poodle has major epilepsy issues.  He's been with me for E years now but his former owner had him on extremely high levels of pheno, which we believe to be the cause of his very high livers values.  My vet switched him onto a MUCH lower dose of pheno in conjuntion with KBR, also in a low dose.  We finally have his seizures under control.  He also takes Denosyl plus the milk thistle and dandilion, which has brought his levels way down.  I tried to use Epi Plus but this made no change so we have stopped it.
