Re: [HolisticPet] Dandelion, etc.
Hi Debz,
Thank you for adding your insight on this. I've done so much research and
always ask lots of questions but it never hurts to get others' opinions.
When my poodle started showing symptoms of liver problems, it started out
as simple as him being clumsy and just tripping sometimes. It advanced
quickly though to walking around like he was drunk and ending up not being able
to take even 1 step without falling over. What was the strangest was you
could tell he was completely alert, just had no control.
Blood work showed his Alkaline Phosphatase was 3050! All other values
were normal, odd but that's what they were. My vet started him immediately on
Denosyl but told me that it's just a supplement and it may not have any
real affect on him, and prepared me for a short time with Mackey. Within 12
hours after his 1 pill of Denosyl, I was starting to notice that he was
able to take several steps and even run short distance before he would
stumble. Within 18 hours, even better. At the 24 hour mark he was walking,
running, jumping completely NORMAL! We ran his blood work 48 hours after his
first pill (at this point 2 pills later), Mackey's Alkaline Phosphatase was
now 1028. Still very high, but nothing compared to what they were. I put
him on the Milk Thistle and Dandelion in addition(recommende
vet), his levels have remained the same but he acts fine. My vet told me
that one of his dogs had the same high levels of Alkaline Phosphatase and
lived to be 17 years old so I shouldn't be alarmed since Mackey is doing
good. Does this sound about right to you?
Also the holistic vet that I had spoken to before (is big into Eastern
Medicine), she mentioned also that the Chinese believe the epilepsy is not a
brain issue but is more of a liver issue. I've wanted to do more research
on this but cannot find any good sites, do you know any? Also she really is
into Chinese Food Therapy and had a quick reference chart, but I can't find
anything on this either. It all seems very fascinating but I can't find
anything to research any of it.
Well thank you again,
Amanda
